Cooler weather looks here to stay

THE city is settling into cooler weather with high temperatures of around 28 to 30 degrees Celsius forecast.

Forecasters said Shanghai is unlikely to see any high temperature days — when temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius are recorded — in September.

The high was 32 degrees yesterday, a drop of four degrees from Thursday.

City temperatures are likely to keep dropping gradually in September, said Fu Yi, a chief service officer of the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

Meteorological records show that temperatures above 35 degrees in September have only been recorded in four years between 2000 and 2012.

Rain is predicted this morning, but it should clear in the afternoon. The high should be 28 degrees and the low 23 degrees, due to the influence of a cold front from the north.

Tomorrow and Monday should be cloudy with a high of 29 degrees. Tuesday and Wednesday are also forecast to be cloudy with a high of 30 degrees, said the bureau.
