Deal on maglev-metro travel planned

SHANGHAI Metro and maglev users can now avail of a discounted coupon ticket when they use both lines of transport.

The ticket will be similar to the one used in Hong Kong, mainly targeting air travelers and out-of-town visitors who travel from airport to downtown city.

The new ticket price for a single journey maglev trip will cost 55 yuan (US$8.9), the Shanghai Evening Post reported.

A two-way trip will cost 85 yuan.

As yet, no dates have been decided for the issuance of such tickets. The maglev ticket costs 50 yuan for a single ride in Shanghai.

It links Longyang Road Station on Metro Line 2 to the Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

A Shanghai transport card holder can buy the same ticket for 40 yuan for a maglev train ride.

According to the planned coupon ticket, the maglev ticket will be combined with the current Metro one-day pass ticket.

The one-day pass currently costs 18 yuan.

However, the coupon ticket, like the Metro one-day pass, has few takers among the locals.

Many of them said Line 2 was already linked with two airports and costs 11 yuan.
