Death toll falls
FATAL road accidents fell slightly in the first half of this year, Shanghai traffic police said yesterday. They recorded 1,108 accidents from January to June, 13 percent fewer than the same period last year. There were 448 deaths and 999 injuries, a 2 percent and 20 percent decrease over last year.
Officers said 190 people died and 392 were injured in 436 accidents since the Expo began trial operations.
