Driver left accident scene for treatment
THE driver of a Mercedes Benz that ran off an elevated road and plunged into a construction site in Huangpu District told reporters he left the accident site on Tuesday night to get medical attention.
Yang Zhenxin was still in Xinhua Hospital for treatment yesterday.
Yang likely drove into the closed construction site through a 5-meter gap in the entrance barricades, even though there were large signs indicating the road was closed. The car sped off the end of the elevated road, which is 10 meters high, and crashed into the construction site.
One of his friends said Yang employs a driver, but that he chose to drove on the night of the accident. His friend added that Yang wasn't familiar with the road.
Asked about why he left the scene after the accident, Yang said he called a good friend for help and then left to seek medical treatment.
