Duo typhoons' impact on Shanghai limited

SHANGHAI was not heavily influenced by the duo typhoons which had landed China respectively from last night to early this morning.

Although the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau was still holding the blue typhoon alert this morning, the lowest of the four-level system, Saola and Damrey had been weakened to tropical storms after landing and should have limited influence to the city, according to the bureau.

Landed at 6:50am this morning in Fujian Province, Saola reached Zhouning County of the province by 11am and was still moving northwest with a speed of 15 kilometers per hour. Due to the influence of its outer circulation, gales above the coastal waters of Shanghai should gust over 100 kilometers per hour while such gales should not occur in urban areas.

Damrey landed in Jiangsu Province 9:30pm last night and kept moving northwest afterwards, the bureau said.

Shanghai will still see some showers today and the maximum temperature should be around 32 degrees Celsius. The weather should turn cloudy with partly showers tomorrow and the mercury should climb to 33 degrees Celsius.
