Expo Transformer Substation In Operation
The first transformer substation for the 2010 World Expo was put into operation yesterday in Sanlin, Pudong New Area. The substation is expected to support the power demand of middle and southern Pudong after the Expo, the Shanghai Electric Co said.
The 500-kilowatt substation, which was built in an environmentally friendly way and makes efficient use of land, cost 3 billion yuan (US$429 million).
"Pudong has one of the largest appetites for electricity in the city," said an official with the company.
All the substations for the Expo will finish construction by the end of this year, including two 200 kilowatt and five 110 kilowatt substations, said the company.
