Extension of Line 13 begins run tomorrow
A NEW subway section of Metro Line 13 in the northwest part of the city will be put into trial operation tomorrow, Shanghai's Metro operator announced yesterday.
Subway trains will run from 6am until after 10pm during the trial operation along five stations of the line, stretching nine kilometers, said Metro officials. The trains will come every 10 minutes. There is no specific length of time for the trial operation to last.
Mobile phone and Wi-Fi users will not be able to receive signals on the trains for now as the carriers are still doing testing work. That testing is expected to be finished before the Spring Festival in February.
With the new section, people in suburban Jiading District will be able to reach Metro lines like Line 3 and Line 4 at Jinshajiang Road Station in half an hour or less. Five stations along the line will open first, with another two under construction entering service in 2013.
