Extra seats on suburban subway lines
THE city's subway operator will revamp some metro trains in sub-urban areas trains to set up more seats in the carriage for the passengers.
The president of Shentong Metro Co Ying Minghong said they will redecorate the carriage and set up more seats in the carriages of subway trains in the suburban area to make it more comfortable for riders.
It is the first attempts to increase seats in subway carriages to meet new transit order, Ying said.
Not all lines will benefit from the revamp, said Ying. Those lines operated in the downtown area will not have their seats increases as the new arrangement will lower the capacity of carriages and these trains are already strained in rush hours.
Security measures will also be stepped up during the 184-day World EXPO. Shanghai subway police will employ more than 570 X-ray machines and police dogs in the city's metro lines.
