Fallen man fleeing

A man who fell onto a highway underpass and was crushed by cars early Thursday morning was a reveler who was fleeing police intervention in a street conflict among a group of drunk people, police said yesterday.

Minhang District police said the victim, surnamed Guo, was involved in a police alert to report the conflict. Surveillance showed Guo fell onto the Wuzhong Road underpass, which is part of the Middle Ring Road traffic artery, and his body was run over by a black Buick sedan at 6:09am. Police said they found a high level of alcohol inside his blood sample. The driver, surnamed Liu, was being held by police for investigation.
