Faucets made by big brands fail quality tests
Water faucets made by big international brands including Kohler and Moen were found to contain excessive levels of lead and chromium that could affect the nervous and reproductive systems and lead to vomiting and abdominal pain, the city’s market watchdog said.
About 63 percent out of 61 batches of faucets checked by the Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Administrative Bureau failed quality tests.
A batch of Kohler water faucets used for washbasins sold at the Zhabei District outlet of B&Q China were on the list. Another batch of Moen faucets for washbasins sold in Putuo District were found to have the same problem.
Bureau officials reminded consumers to let water run for a few minutes in the morning before use to avoid consumption of water that has stood overnight.
