Ferries to local islands resume as fog fades
FERRY services to three islands north of Shanghai in the mouth of the Yangtze River resumed this afternoon after a 5-hour suspension due to heavy fog, said local maritime officials.
Water traffic had been severely affected by the fog since 6:30am this morning, the officials said, noting that visibility was reduced to less than 200 meters.
More than 20 ferries to Chongming Island, Changxing Island and Hengsha Island were cancelled because of the bad weather. Passengers had to take road vehicles to go to the islands.
Ferry services gradually resumed after the fog thinned out around noon, said the officials.
