Festival safety plans set for Yuyuan Garden
SAFETY plans are in place for the popular Yuyuan Garden tourist attraction during the Spring and Lantern festivals, the city government said today.
Visitors to the garden will only be allowed to walk along Jiuqu Bridge in one-direction from tomorrow through March 8 as it is frequently packed with people during festivals. The zigzag bridge is one of the garden‘s iconic features as it is set in front of a traditional teahouse.
When the number of tourists reaches 20,000 in the area, the one-way traffic or a total ban on traffic will be expanded to narrow passages less than 3 meters wide.
Admission to Yuyuan Garden will stop once the number of tourists reaches 40,000 and the bridge will be closed.
Yuyuan Garden canceled its annual Lantern Festival display due to safety concerns in the wake of the Bund stampede that left 36 people dead and dozens injured on December 31.
