Fog halts shipping
EARLY morning fog today stranded more than 80 international vessels leaving and docking at city ports, Shanghai maritime officials said.
Ferry services to the city's three islands were also canceled, officials said.
Maritime authorities imposed traffic controls on a major deep-water navigation channel at the mouth of Yangtze River from early morning till noon. About 30 large cargo ships were affected.
Visibility around the mouth area was less than 400 meters, officials said.
Several flights were also reported to be delayed this morning, and rain caused several traffic accidents and breakdowns in the morning rush hours.
