Freezing festive forecast

FINE weather is expected over Christmas but the mercury looks set to slip below freezing, forecasters said.

The sunny spell that started on Thursday should remain over the next three days, while temperatures will remain low today and dip down to minus 1 degree Celsius on Christmas Day morning in downtown, according to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

Today should be sunny, with the mercury ranging from a low of zero degree to a high of 7.

Tomorrow should see a sunny to cloudy Christmas Day, with the low 1 degree below zero and the high at 8 degrees, the bureau said.

"The temperature should be even lower - around minus 3 degrees to minus 1 - in the suburbs in the mornings of the 24th and 25th," said Wu Rui, a chief service officer of the bureau.

Wu said it should warm up a little from Monday.
