Freezing weather on the way
FREEZING temperatures are forecast for much of this week as a strong cold front from the north reaches the city bringing strong winds, forecasters said yesterday.
The cold front is expected to affect the city from this evening, and the mercury will drop to around minus 1 degree Celsius with ice on Wednesday morning in downtown areas, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
But the weather should remain dry, with no rain forecast this week, according to the bureau.
The lowest temperature was just under 2 degrees in downtown areas yesterday, under the influence of high pressure, with the mercury falling below zero in suburban areas.
But temperature climbed quickly during a clear day and the benchmark Xujiahui weather station reported the highest temperature at 10 degrees.
Temperatures should reach 13 degrees today, with cloudy weather forecast.
But anyone who’s out and about should wrap up as the cold front is set to arrive at dusk, forecasters said.
