Girl forced by parents to kneel on street on hottest day as punishment
A GIRL was forced to kneel on the ground while doing her homework as punishment on the hottest day of the year, when the city issued this year's first red alert, the highest of the three-level alert system.
While it was not known exactly what the girl did wrong, witnesses who posted a photo of the scene said her parents forced her to do so to learn from her mistakes. Despite the attempts of passersby to relent, the parents, who live in the Pudong New Area, would not let the girl move.
The girl stayed that way for more than an hour before she was allowed to go back indoors, after the parents finally heeded the words of those dismayed by the punishment.
The photo created a stir on the Internet, with many criticizing the parents and saying they should be punished for child abuse.
The temperature of the road surface was believed to be about 50 degrees during the girl's punishment.
