Glitch brings part of Metro Line 2 to standstill
A section of the busy Metro Line 2 broke down again today during the morning rush hour, delaying tens of thousands of commuters.
The equipment glitch occurred around 8am and affected the rail operation between Guanglan Road Station and the station at Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, a main route for commuters to get to downtown and the Lujiazui central business district.
Crowds swelled at platforms along the line, particularly at the Century Avenue Station that is a hub for transfer to other lines. Police and extra station workers showed up to direct the crowds.
The Metro operator imposed flow control to relieve overcrowding at major stations on Metro Line 2.
Operation returned to normal at about 8:40am. The malfunction of a train was blamed for causing the breakdown, said the Metro operator.
