Heat wave forecast to scorch the city this week
SUMMER is coming back with a vengeance this week as daily highs are forecast to range between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius.
According to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau, it will turn sunny starting today - ending a 24-day wet spell - as a subtropical high pressure system reaches the city.
The heat wave could last three to five days, according to the weather bureau.
The last day with a temperature above 35 degrees was July 21. The weather turned cool and rainy on July 22.
According to the weather bureau, the city has had more rain than usual in the late July and early August period as well as cooler temperatures.
From July 21 to August 13, total rainfall in Xujiahui area reached 375.2 millimeters. It was the second-highest total over the same period since the city started keeping records 136 years ago.
