Historic bridge revamp

THE Zhejiang Road Bridge over Suzhou Creek, which dates back to 1908, will be dismantled for a major renovation starting from next February, officials said yesterday.

The yearlong revamp will fix structural problems on the steel structure after more than a century in use, while keeping its original look, said Zhang Minyi, director with the Shanghai Road Administration Bureau.

The bridge will be transported to a factory for renovation. It is the second steel bridge on the creek to be dismantled and renovated, following the Waibaidu Bridge.
