Holiday prices drop to bargain rates

TRAVEL prices are plunging now that the Spring Festival holiday is over, industry sources said.
Prices of most tour packages have fallen from 20 to 70 percent. Most hotels and tourist destination cut their prices after the holiday, which means the total cost of package tours falls significantly.
According to Ctrip.com, an online travel agency, even prices for popular destinations such as Sanya in Hainan Province have fallen 70 percent. A five-day trip to Sanya now costs around 4,500 yuan (US$658) yuan. During the Spring Festival the same package cost 15,000 yuan.
"This month and next are the cheapest times to travel," said Ctrip.com's Tang Yibo.
However, prices were still higher than last year during the same period. Last year, the same package to Sanya at one point dropped below 2,000 yuan.
For international tour packages, the price falls are not so large.
Southeast-Asian resorts such as Bali and the Maldives will experience price drops of around 10 percent.
