Hongqiao station to get late night shuttle buses
TRAFFIC authorities said they would add shuttle buses for rail passengers who arrive late at night at the newly opened Hongqiao Railway Station.
Passengers have found it difficult to get downtown after Metro Line 2, the only subway connecting to the station so far, ends its railway station service at 10:48pm.
Lu Gaosheng, a spokesman with the city transport administration, said the situation is not good since "many taxi drivers are reluctant to pick up passengers there as they are still unfamiliar with some new roads."
Lu said the bus service will start at 11pm.
Five bus routes serve the railway station during the day and one at night. The night bus service takes passengers to the Bund area.
On July 1, the opening day of the Shanghai-Nanjing high-speed rail line, more than 3,000 passengers were stranded at Hongqiao Railway Station late that night.
Traffic officials had to summon 30 more buses after 11pm. Taxis were also called to transport the stranded passengers.
Meanwhile, officials said tickets "sold well" for the Shanghai-Nanjing high-speed trains.
Daily ticket sales have reached more than 130,000 in Shanghai and neighboring Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, just three days into the new line's operation.
