Hot time for the town
THE city is entering the hottest period of summer but the temperature will only tip 34 degrees Celsius today, says the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
It will be cloudy today and thunderstorms may hit some areas of the city.
The hot period, known in Chinese as "rufu", will not end until the middle of August.
Tomorrow's high will be under 35 degrees but the temperatures will soar to 36 and 37 degrees from Thursday.
City residents had experienced six sizzlers with temperatures of 35 degrees or above this summer. The latest hot day is on July 12.
Twenty more really hot days are predicted for the summer, according to weatherman Li Jinyu. Li suggests residents drink more water, take more salt and avoid outside activities.
This summer's rainfall will be less than the falls recorded in past years although one or two typhoons will still hit the city, the bureau said.
