Hot weather ahead despite some rainy days
AUTUMN seems to be dragging its heels this year despite some coolness yesterday and today, the city's weather bureau said.
The maximum temperature today was around 26 degrees Celsius as a result of showers. Yesterday's average temperature was 25.7 degrees, far from autumn's threshold of 22 degrees Celsius for five consecutive days, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
The sky is expected to clear up on Thursday and the temperature will soar up again, the bureau said. A strong subtropical high pressure will dominate the city later this week, pushing the mercury up to 33 degrees on Friday.
The showers across the city today did not cause much flood. The bureau issued a yellow rainstorm alert, third highest of a four-color warning scale, at 10am and a yellow lightning alert, lowest of a three-color scale, at 9:15am. The alerts were lifted at 11:45am.
