Illegal cabbie knocks down police to avoid check
AN unlicensed taxi driver was detained on Saturday after he knocked down a police patrol to escape the road check, Shanghai police said today.
The incident happened on Saturday morning when a policeman motioned the cabbie surnamed Yang to pull over to the roadside near the Hongqiao International Airport for a check.
Yang changed the lane in an attempt to escape but was blocked by the officer in the front. The desperate cabbie stepped on the gas and his car knocked down the officer, Liu Ying, then drove away, police said.
Yang was intercepted and caught two kilometers away on Tianshan Road.
Investigation showed the 38-year-old cabbie was driving a cloned taxi. He is now held in police custody for disrupting public service.
