Italian visa service gets quicker
THE Italian consulate in Shanghai said it has shortened the visa application process for Chinese nationals.
People can now get a visa in as little as 36 hours, a consulate official said, adding that in the past, the process would take several days.
Part of the reason for the speedier processing is that the Italian city of Milan will this year host World Expo 2015.
“The number of visa applications is expected to surge to 200,000 this year because of the expo,” the official said.
The consulate issued 110,000 visas last year, which was twice the number in 2013, it told a press conference.
About 1.5 million Chinese are expected to visit the expo in Milan.
