License plate quota set at 5,200 this month

THE quota for vehicle license plates has been set at 5,200 for this month, the Shanghai International Commodity Auction Co Ltd has announced.
The quota is 700 more than last month, the auction firm said. The auction will be on January 10.
Two hundred and six plates are reserved for businesses changing motorcycle plates to car plates and 29 are for motorcycles.
The average price for a car plate in December rose 7,314 yuan (US$1,068) to 31,665 yuan from a month earlier. The lowest winning bid rose to 31,000 yuan.
The price drop in November, to the lowest level since March, prompted more bidders, thus pushing up prices, said Zhu Junyi of Shanghai Information Center's auto industry research office.
Bidding regulations implemented in January 2008 will continue this year.
