Line 9 riders feel congestion crunch

TWO stations close to the southwest end of Metro Line 9 yesterday had a huge jump in rush-hour congestion yesterday after a closure began on part of the route as part of the line's extension. The city's Metro operator yesterday said passengers, mostly people from Songjiang University Town and Songjiang New Town, should leave home earlier during the upcoming days to avoid congestion.

The Dongjing Station, Songjiang University Town Station and Songjiang New Town Station were closed yesterday morning and the shutdown will continue until September 3 to prepare for the opening of the new extension to this Metro route. The transport authority is providing four free replacement bus routes in the area. The free ferry buses operate from 7am to 9am and from 5pm to 7pm. The buses take people to the two Metro stations and also to send them back.
