Man falls off Metro station platform
A MAN fell off the platform at a Metro Line 3 station yesterday, halting operations on the line and on Line 4 during morning rush hours.
Metro operator said the man "fell off accidently" and was not injured.
The incident happened at 7:59am on Line 3's Yishan Road Station, an elevated stop along the line. Line 4 shares some elevated stations with Line 3.
The man was about to get off the train at the station. However, he had to struggle to get out as a crowd of passengers was trying to enter the carriage, witnesses said. Suddenly the man fell down the gap between the platform and the train as he tried to slide by the crowd.
"The man was stuck in between the space," a passenger said.
Metro staff soon alerted the trains which were about to enter the station. Staff and security guards pulled the man out. After resting at the station for 15 minutes, the man left.
Even though operations resumed at 8:05am, just six minutes later, the pile-up of passengers meant that the oncoming trains on both the lines were packed to the brim.
It was the second time this week that operations on Line 3 were halted due to such an incident. On Tuesday, a man entered the subway track at Caobao Road, halting services on the line for about 10 minutes.
