Marathon will affect roads, buses
TRAFFIC will be blocked or rerouted in some areas for the 2012 Shanghai International Marathon on Sunday, authorities said.
The annual event, which also marks the end of the Shanghai Mass Sports Festival, will follow a new route this year. Starting from Chenyi Square on the Bund, marathon runners will pass the Nanjing Road Pedestrian Mall, Huaihai Road and the Xuhui riverside avenue to finish at the Shanghai Stadium, according to the Shanghai Sports Bureau.
This is the first time Huaihai Road and the Xuhui riverside avenue - one of the best Huangpu River sightseeing spots in the city - have been included.
The full and half marathons finish at Shanghai Sports Stadium, while the fun run ends at the Shanghai Exhibition Center on Nanjing Road W.
The race is held from 7:30am to 1pm and the following roads will be closed temporarily for the event.
From 5:30am to 7:30am, vehicles on Zhongshan Road E., Dianchi Road, Beijing Road E., Nanjing Road E. and Suzhou Road S. will be limited.
From 7am to 7:45am, the down ramp on Jiangxi Road of Yan'an Elevated Road will be closed, and vehicles on part of Yan'an Road E. will be limited.
From 7am to 8am, the down ramp on Huashan Road of Yan'an Elevated Road will be closed.
From 7:15am to 9am, the down ramp on Huaihai Road of Nanbei Elevated Road will be closed.
From 7:45am to 1pm, Longyao Road Tunnel will be closed.
City public traffic management office said seven bus routes will halt operations during the race due to restrictions. They include buses No. 20, No. 167, No. 974, No. 1212, No. 1213 and the former China Pavilion Line 2 and Line 3 shuttle buses. More than 60 other bus lines will have their routes cut while more than 30 others will take detours affected by the competition.
