Metro Line 17 close to test runs starting
CONSTRUCTION on Metro Line 17 will finish by the end of the year, when test runs will take place.
Making the announcement yesterday, Zhao Huiqin, Party secretary of Qingpu District, also said each station on the line would having a parking lot for people to leave their cars before transferring to the subway trains. The park and ride scheme “is part of the city’s efforts to reduce pressure on road traffic and air pollution.”
Line 17, with 13 stations between Hongqiao Railway Station and Oriental Land, runs mainly in Qingpu District, which has worked out a public transportation plan to connect with the Metro stations.
“We have adjusted nearly 70 bus lines to carry passengers from and to the subway stations,” said Zhao. “Currently, all related facilities are being tested before opening to the public.”
Meanwhile, the district said it will build six parks along four main rivers that will offer recreation, tourism, ecology, sport and culture. These include a recreation park along Shangda River in the northern part of the district, an ecological water park at Youdun Port in the east, a history and culture park along Dianpu River in the south, and a sports exercise park at Xidaying Port in the west.
