Metro adds ticket boxes to cut long lines

METRO operator will add four ticket boxes at Entrance 7 of Metro Nanjing Road E Station to ease congestions during evening hours.

Since Line 10 ends its service about 8pm, only Entrance 2 and Entrance 7 remain open to passengers who would take Line 2 which shares the same station with Line 10.

The operator said the current three entrances for Line 2 at the station are not enough to handle all those visitors who pour into the station after exploring the Bund and surrounding areas.

Most of them are out-of-town visitors who are not familiar with automatic ticket machines and prefer to buy tickets from the boxes, causing long queues. Metro staff at Line 10 sometimes have to come over to help Line 2.

Some Metro equipment at the station have been removed to create space for more ticket boxes.

Line 2 surpassed the Line 1 after the World Expo opened, becoming city's busiest subway with more than 1.3 million passengers a day.
