Metro breaks records
THE city’s Metro network broke traffic records for three Fridays on the trot, its operator said at the weekend.
Last Friday, the Metro was used for 11.79 million trips, up 110,000 trips on the previous record set on March 10.
The operator attributed much of the increased traffic to the numerous flower festivals, exhibitions, concerts and games — along with the warmer weather.
Metro lines 6, 8, 9, 11 and 13 all reported record numbers.
Meanwhile, the city’s railway authority launched the 30-day Spring Outgoing Travel Rush from Saturday. More than 9 million passengers are expected to leave the city from its three major railway stations during the travel rush, up slightly over 10 percent from the same period last year.
About 75 percent of the traffic will involve short-distance trips.
