Metro riders seize suspect after scream
A MAN was seized by other passengers after a woman felt him touching her leg on an escalator at a Metro station on Line 6, Metro police said yesterday.
The man fled after the woman screamed at the West Gaoke Road Station about 9pm on Tuesday. Other Metro passengers grabbed the man and turned him over to police.
They questioned and released him with a warning after the woman agreed not to press charges.
The man, in his late 20s, had no prior record for molestation or other crimes.
Metro police also strengthened their checks on banned items entering the Metro lines before the coming Spring Festival holiday.
Police said they had nabbed more than 4,800 items of contraband and dangerous goods so far this year. The volume is on the decrease, officers said.
They also sent more than 50 beggars who had been reported working subway cars to aid stations this year. Most of them had been reported repeatedly.
