Metro slows down as repair in progress
METRO Line 9 was crowded with commuters this morning but operation went uninterrupted after the operator changed the train schedule due to the damage on one section yesterday.
Local Metro operator had to prolong the line's interval time today with slower train speed mainly in the section in suburban Songjiang District for safety concerns after an autoclave machine in a nearby factory exploded early Sunday and its lid slammed into a pier of the elevated Line 9, forcing six stations to close for hours.
The accident also injured five factory workers.
Trains on the route still ran but at slower speed this morning after an overnight emergency repair. The interval time is set between six to 12 minutes.
District transportation authorities mobilized nearly 90 shuttle buses to carry Line 9 passengers to its downtown stations.
However, passengers who boarded the buses complained that the road was congested in the morning and it took longer to go to work.
Metro Line 9 downtown stations saw bigger passenger turnouts, double the volume on normal days.
Meanwhile, the operator said the repair work would continue and may not be finished in short time.
