More buses to ease festive traffic

Shanghai will ply additional buses on 29 routes that connect or go past the city’s main railway stations during the Spring Festival peak period.

The bus routes will connect railway stations as well as other major transportation hubs like Zhongshan Park, Nanhui Bus Station, Taopu area and some large neighborhoods.

About 9.3 million passengers are expected to take the train from Shanghai Railway Station, Shanghai South Railway Station and Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station.

The peak travel time for the festival, which falls on January 31, will be between January 16 to February 24.

Shanghai Transport and Port Administration will rename the existing Line 1 to Line 29 routes as “Chunyun” (Spring Festival Transport) for the convenience of passengers. Night buses will be added as well. Spare vehicles will be set aside at main transportation hubs in case of passenger overload.

The traffic authorities will add over 8,000 buses and coaches for long distance travel and provide chartered services to enterprises whose employees are mainly migrant workers.

Shanghai has over 500,000 migrant workers from southwestern Sichuan Province and surrounding areas.
