More trains to run for visitors
The Metro operator is to add extra services on five subway lines with stations near Expo entrances this weekend.
Trains will run until midnight on Lines 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9. The intervals between trains will be about 15 minutes.
But the operator said only nine stations along the lines will allow both entry and exit while other stations will only allow passengers to exit during the extended period.
Other Metro lines will not be affected.
Meanwhile, more than 20 ticket turnstiles have been added to some key stations near the Expo site to cope with the expected passenger surge during the trial runs.
Free shuttle buses are also being put on both the Pudong and Puxi sides to take visitors to the Expo site from Metro stations such as Line 7's Houtan station and Gaoke Road W. station as well as Line 9's Madang Road station.
The buses will be running from 8am to 12am.
The measures were taken after visitors complained about long queues on April 20, the first day of the Expo trial runs.
The operator said traffic yesterday was smooth compared with the first Expo trial day.
The subways with stations near the Expo site handled more than 183,200 people keen to see the show.
