Named Juneyao pilot denies being part of Qatar Airways saga

A South Korean pilot Choi Eunjung of Juneyao Airlines today said she was not the pilot who refused to give way to a Qatar Airways plane as several Chinese news websites and online rumors have claimed.

Juneyao has several South Korean pilots, so the online media made the mistake to identify Choi as the pilot, a person close to Choi told Shanghai Daily today.

"The mistake made her feel grievance, because she is an outstanding pilot and works very hard to become a female professional pilot," said the person.

Choi is among few female professional pilots in Asia. She has also been an interpreter of the wife of the US Ambassador to South Korea.

The East China Regional Administration, which is under the Civil Aviation Administration of China, handed a life ban on an South Korean pilot barring the pilot from flying an airplane as a crew member in China.

The ban came after the pilot refused to give way to a Qatar Airways plane that was running out of fuel as both planes waited to land at Shanghai's Hongqiao International Airport on August 13.
