Neighboring cities to be linked by Metro Line 11

Shanghai will be linked by Metro to Kunshan City in neighboring Jiangsu Province when subway trains will be put on trial runs within a week, local Metro operator said yesterday.

The Anting-Huaqiao section on Metro Line 11 is likely to become operational this year after a complete trial run.

The Jiangsu section of the line has three subway stations - Zhaofeng, Guangming and Huaqiao road stations. Zhaofeng and Guangming have covered the tops while Huaqiao has finished its catenary system.

In the next step, the Metro operator will test and adjust the signals of the trains for night runs. It takes a little more than 10 minutes for a one-way ride from Zhaofeng to Huaqiao station, the city's Metro operator said.

The construction of the three subway stations in Jiangsu will be in line with the stations in Shanghai, including signs and the shape of the stations. Safety doors will also be installed to keep passengers from falling over, the operator said.

The Jiangsu Province's road traffic department will run seven bus routes to the three stations, including Bus No. 102 in Kunshan City.

Buses will also run between Line 11 stations in Jiangsu to Metro Line 1 in Suzhou City, making it more convenient for Shanghai residents to go to Kunshan and Suzhou.

The new bus routes will become operational this year, authorities said.
