New expressway planned to link Chongming and Jiangsu
SHANGHAI plans to build more expressways in a total length of nearly 200 kilometers in the next five years, the city's highway administrators said today.
The planned expressway projects include the thoroughfare connecting city's Chongming Island and the neighboring Jiangsu Province's Qidong City, an expressway linking city's Out Ring road to G15, a major highway for north-bound vehicles going out of Shanghai.
Officials also said the expressway construction in the following years would be shifted focus on suburban areas. A total length of 1,000 kilometers of highways are already on plan.
The city government will continue to encourage more people to use the electronic toll collection (ETC) system.
