New promenade project to start on Southern Bund
THE section of Bund between the Suzhou Creek to the north and the Nanpu Bridge to the south will be made into a pedestrian promenade, according to a blueprint announced by the city's Huangpu District government today.
Under the development blueprint for the "Southern Bund Project" set to start next year, docks on the Bund currently occupied by firms will be turned into waterfront platforms. Old factories and warehouses will be relocated to make way for bars, hotels and commercial buildings.
The riverside Southern Bund project covers 526,000 square meters with a shoreline stretching 2.6 kilometers in the downtown area. Constructions will start next year and are expected to be completed by 2015, the district government said today.
