New rule to thwart Metro ticket evaders
METRO commuters can have their transport cards "locked up" or canceled if they misuse the cards three times in a month when passing the ticket turnstiles, according to a new rule made by the Metro authorities to thwart ticket evaders.
Many passengers have been found to evade fares by scanning the cards to enter the Metro station, but not scanning them on exit, said the Metro operator. In this way, the money will not be deducted from their cards.
Some commuters are found simply jumping over the turnstiles or ducking under the turnstiles to dodge Metro charges.
The Metro operator has found about 1 percent of the 6 million passengers per day misuse their transport cards.
Passengers can go to the Metro service counter at the station to "unlock" their cards if they misuse their cards twice, but if they did that three times, they can no longer use their cards.
Metro officials are still talking about the details of the rule which will be released soon.
