No parking for tour buses at the Bund

TOUR buses will be banned from picking up or dropping off passengers in a busy stretch of the Bund from tomorrow.

City traffic authority said tour buses failing to observe road regulations were the main reason for increased congestion along the waterfront avenue. The area has temporary parking lanes but tour buses used them as parking lot, said traffic police.

The section where buses will be banned from parking is 1.7 kilometer long between Fuxing Road E. in the south and Waibaidu Bridge at the north end of the Bund.

Buses are told to park in a large underground parking lot under the renovated Shiliupu Wharf, which can hold about 700 vehicles. Visitors need to walk 15 to 20 minutes to the main section of the Bund or ride a bus for one stop.

For those who are unwilling to walk that long, city buses will be added to take them to sightseeing spots along the Bund.

In another move to ease congestion, city taxis are guided to eight designated taxi stops along the Bund. Random parking is forbidden.
