Observation deck gets better fence
THE airport authorities said yesterday that work is underway to bolster the protective fence on an observation deck in the new terminal of Hongqiao International Airport.
The measures are being taken to "ensure passenger safety," the Hongqiao airport operator said in a statement.
"The construction will be finished as soon as possible," the statement said.
The deck, a highlight of the new terminal that is supposed to provide a spectacular view of the runways, was closed after being open for just one day - T2's opening day, March 16.
The reason for the shut-down, which had annoyed people who had trekked to the airport for the view, wasn't immediately clear.
Although airport officials said the deck's decor wasn't finished, some observers speculated the problem was safety; although there is a fence around the deck, people could still throw objects onto the apron if they wanted to.
For the most part, the new terminal is in good shape after nearly a week in service, said the operator. But officials also said they will make some adjustments to give passengers a smoother journey.
Today and tomorrow, they'll add new guide signs to help travelers find a transit center and Metro Line 2.
