One major step completed to restore damaged Middle Ring Road

THE damaged part of the Middle Ring Road, which was weighed down by an overloaded truck, has now been leveled with the road, the constructer said this morning.

The lifting operation kicked off at midnight and had proceeded smoothly as planned, the Shanghai Road Administration Bureau said.

The northern section of the Middle Ring Road was severely damaged after the truck carrying about 100 tons of concrete piles overturned on it near Hutai Road and Wenshui Road in wee hours on May 23.

Trucks are banned from driving on elevated roads.

Parts of the Middle Ring Road, a major artery to city traffic, had to be shut down after the accident, and a definite schedule of reopening the road hasn’t been announced.
