Park officials beg for bus routes
BINJIANG Forest Park will apply for more public transport to be routed nearby. Officials have blamed sparse use on the lack of public transport – just 330,000 visitors visited the park last year, only a tenth of those using Century Park, they said today.
Only one bus route leads to the Pudong New Area park, the Waigaoqiao No.1 bus, which leaves every 30 to 45 minutes.
"In fact no public transport at all ran when the park opened in 2007," said park official Han Yanmin. "And after that we asked the government to give us some. That's the Waigaoqiao No.1 bus."
Local greenery authorities said that the second phase of the park is now under planning. The project will learn lessons from the first phase, will lay emphasis on developing services during construction, officials said today.
The second phase of the park is expected to occupy about 194 hectares, about twice as large as the first phase. One it is finished, the park will have the richest forest resource in the city.
