Passengers fight on rush-hour Metro
TWO passengers fought on a crowded subway train during yesterday's morning rush, said Metro police.
But officers dismissed an online rumor that the fight was prompted by an attempted robbery.
The disturbance took place at 8:15am on a Metro Line 1 train following a quarrel as both tried to get off a carriage at Changshu Road Station, police said. One man was left with a bleeding nose.
An online post, at 8:28am on weibo.com, claimed a robber had fought with the victim and that "blood could be seen on the ground." The rumor subsequently spread.
The Metro operator confirmed the fight occurred but said operations along the line were unaffected.
Police took the men away for questioning and the injured man was sent to hospital. The two parties were still in mediation last night, Metro police said.
