Pleasant weather in the forecast

The week is expected to start out with pleasant weather but two weak cold fronts will bring the temperature down slightly on Thursday, forecasters said yesterday.

A mix of sun and clouds is forecast from today through Friday, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.

Today through Wednesday the temperature will range from 16 to 22 degrees Celsius, said Zhang Ruiyi, a chief service officer with the bureau.

The high is expected to dip to 20 degrees on Thursday.

Yesterday’s high was 22.7 degrees.

The bureau said last Tuesday marked the beginning of meteorological autumn, 13 days later than the average start.

Shanghai had 157 days of summer this year, the most since the city began keeping records in 1872.

The bureau announces the arrival of autumn when the average temperature dips below 22 degrees for five straight days. The first of those five days is then declared the beginning of autumn.
