Police make short cuts for ill woman
WAIGAOQIAO Port immigration police helped rush a seriously ill woman from a ship through immigration to get her to hospital quickly this morning.
The 47-year-old woman is the wife of the captain of the Panamanian container ship "Demeter Leader" which belongs to Shanghai Wilhelmsen Huayang Ships Service Ltd.
Four days ago, when the ship was on its way from Singapore to South Korea, the woman developed a serious headache and her blood pressure rose. Even after taking medicine her symptoms persisted.
The ship's company phoned the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Border Checkpoint this morning for help.
To streamline the operation, the checkpoint allowed the ship to pull in temporarily and a helicopter from the East Sea first relief flight team picked up the ill woman.
At around 8am, the woman arrived at the Gaodong Helicopter Base in Pudong and was rushed to the Shanghai No. 1 People's Branch Hospital after having the entry formalities completed in 30 seconds.
The woman was found to be suffering from seriously high blood pressure and needed more tests, the hospital said.
