Power bill payments to be made more convenient

Residents in the Pudong New Area will be able to pay their power bills in their neighborhoods after the installation of 100 self-service machines in residential areas across the district this year.
The Shanghai Electric Power Co's Pudong branch said the average time to pay bills would be reduced to 10 minutes from almost 16 minutes at present.
The machines will also be installed in 15 of the company's outlets in the district.
The company is also encouraging residents to pay online. So far, 36 percent of customers use this method and the company is trying to raise that to 50 percent by the end of this year.
In addition, 500 point-of-sale machines will be delivered to neighborhoods in the district's rural areas this year.
