Pudong airport No. 6 shuttle bus canceled

A SHUTTLE bus connecting Pudong International Airport and Zhongshan Park will be canceled due to financial losses, bus operators said yesterday.

The airport shuttle operator said Shuttle No. 6 was losing money due to a lack of passengers after Metro Line 2 was extended to the airport last year. The subway is cheaper, faster and more convenient.

However, the subway service ends at 9pm at the airport, meaning those arriving on later flights have to arrange alternative transport into the city's downtown area.

Many people suggested on the Internet that Metro services at the airport be extended to 11pm, but there has been no official response from the city's subway operator.

Shuttle No. 6 will remain in service until May 10. Public notices have been posted at each stop along the bus route to inform passengers of the cancellation.

"People rarely take our buses in the day," said a driver surnamed Wu, who was at the bus terminal on Anhua Road near Zhongshan Park in Changning District.
